"Can They Do It?"

Project Description

In teams of 2–4 students, you will choose a famous person, music band, sports team, or celebrity group.

The project combines writing and speaking skills through the use of the verb can in its affirmative, negative, and interrogative forms.

The project has two parts:

Part 1: Written Article

Write an article about the famous person or group, including:

  • A title
  • A short biography
  • Things they can do
  • Things they can't do
  • A conclusion

Part 2: Video Interview

Create and record an interview in which one student is the interviewer and the other student(s) play the role of the celebrity or members of the group.

The interview must include questions and answers using Can...?, can, and can't.

Learning Objective

By the end of this project, students will be able to:

  • Use can to talk about abilities.
  • Use can't to talk about limitations.
  • Ask and answer questions using Can...?
  • Write a simple article about a famous person or group.
  • Participate in a short interview using basic English.
  • Speak clearly and confidently in front of an audience.

Step 1: Choose a Famous Person or Group

Choose one famous person, band, sports team, or celebrity group.

PART 1: WRITTEN ARTICLE

Length

80–120 words

Article Structure

Title

Create a title related to the famous person or group.

Example

Taylor Swift: A Talented Singer

Paragraph 1: Biography

Include:

  • Name
  • Nationality
  • Occupation
  • Basic information

Example

Taylor Swift is an American singer and songwriter. She is famous around the world. She writes music and performs in many countries.

Paragraph 2: What They Can Do

Include at least 4 sentences with can.

Example

She can sing. She can play the guitar. She can write songs. She can perform in concerts.

Paragraph 3: What They Can't Do

Include at least 2 sentences with can't.

Example

She can't fly an airplane. She can't speak every language in the world.

Paragraph 4: Conclusion

Give your opinion about the person or group.

Example

In conclusion, Taylor Swift is a talented artist. She can do many interesting things and she inspires many people.
